Here's the first chapter. Chapter 1
Emotional BattleAudrey sat on the rooftops in New York, April’s rooftop to be exact. She was silent as she watched the other buildings for anybody that would be lurking about before sunrise, whether it be friend or foe, because today was a special day. Though she wasn’t sure if today was going to be a good day. Lately she had been having trouble keeping her powers under control. Her emotions seemed to run wild at times, and this was when the trouble with her powers came.
“How’s it going up here?” a familiar voice asked.
“Just fine, no sign of him,” Audrey snapped.
Out of the corner of her eye she was the blue banded turtle sit down next to her in silence.
“I’m sorry,” she said not looking him in the eye. “I’m just…not feeling like myself.”
“Do you want to talk about it?” Leo asked quietly.
“Well, let’s just put it this way…it’s an emotional struggle,” she answered. “Nothing more…”
“Are you sure?”
She left the question unanswered for awhile, tried to gather her thoughts, come up with a good answer, but nothing came to mind.
“I’ll be fine,” she finally answered.
“Why don’t you take a break and go inside for awhile,” Leo suggested.
“Alright,” she agreed standing up. “Thanks,” she said quietly, heading inside.
Raph flopped down on the couch, exhausted from blowing up what seemed like a hundred balloons. “Why do we even need balloons?”
“Because it’s a party,” April answered as she frosted the cake. “And it’s the same reason why I baked a cake.”
“Yeah,” Raph retorted. “You try filling this many balloons with air.” He looked down at the many balloons that lay scattered on the floor at his feet, some of them black, green, or even orange.
“I thought you were a tough guy…” April teased.
“Are you being sarcastic?!”
“Oh come on Raph, it can’t be that bad,” Don spoke up.
Raph glared at Don to show his annoyance, but today it didn’t seem to affect his purple banded brother. “What’s the point of having the party anyway? Mike’s just going to sleep all day.”
April stopped what she was doing to look up at him. “Why would he do that?”
“Cause that’s what happened last year,” Audrey answered entering the apartment trying not to look down but didn’t succeed.
“Is something wrong?” Raph asked.
“No,” Audrey answered as she found the floor suddenly interesting.
“So what happened last year?” April inquired trying to change the subject.
Turning his attention back to April, he noticed she had returned to finishing the cake. “He slept almost the whole day,” Raph answered.
“And you guys didn’t wake him?”
“No,” Don replied looking up from his decorating. “Though he was up all night last year form excitement that he didn’t stir as we were getting things ready back at the lair that day.”
“Most likely he was up all night this year too,” Raph grumbled.
“Then why are we doing it at my place?” April questioned.
“Michelangelo might have slept all day last year, but that doesn’t mean he would have this year,” Splinter answered carefully as he looked up from helping Don.
Raph didn’t like where this was going, but he tried to keep his temper under control. Looking up he saw his blue banded brother enter the room. “Is he here?”
“No,” Leo answered. “But are you guys ready for him?”
“As ready as we’ll every be,” April replied setting the cake aside.
Raph got up from the couch and started picking up the balloons. “Hey Audrey, could you give me a hand?” he asked as Leo left.
“Sure,” she answered a little distractedly and started picking up the balloons to put them in the right places.
He noticed the way she picked up the balloons as if she were deep in thought, but also unhappy. Walking over to Splinter, Raph set up more balloons. “Is something wrong with Audrey?” he whispered.
“I do not know my son,” Splinter answered with a sigh. “I do not know.”
