Chapter 6
Leo stood on the river bank, gazing out at the water. Mikey stood quietly beside him. The wind started to pick up, lifting the tails of their bandannas to ripple through the wind. The river was quiet. Each warehouse on the dock was empty. The only place left to search would be under the river. He didn’t know where to start searching, but thought any place would do.
“Hey Leo?” Mikey asked.
“Yes?”
“What’s with that light over there? I’ve never seen it before.” Mikey pointed out to the river.
Leo followed Mikey’s gaze, searching the water, until he too spotted the little green light just barely shining out of the water. “I think we better check it out.” He dived into the water, feeling the ripple of Mikey jumping in behind him. He swam toward the light. The closer he came, the more of a building he could see. It went mostly underground at the other side of the riverbank and had a small passageway. He swam through it and up to the surface, gasping for breath. He was hidden behind a large submarine.
Mikey broke the surface a minute later. “Whoa…”
“Shh…” Leo covered Mikey’s mouth. There were many people on the dock, milling about, and guarding the half a dozen submarines. He spotted a door at the far end of the room. He pulled his hand away from Mikey. “See that door over there?” he whispered.
Mikey nodded.
“We have to carefully get past all those guards and…” Leo stopped mid-sentence, staring at the guards. They were familiar, and now he knew why. “Federation troops?”
“What are they doing here?”
“I don’t know. But it’s not good.” Leo quietly swam to the dock and pulled himself up, staying out of sight of the Federation troops. He signaled Mikey to follow him and ducked behind a second sub. About three guys patrolled by the door, going about five feet from the door each time they passed it.
He jumped up on the sub and darted past the guards, hitting the switch to open the door. It opened with a slight squeak as Mikey joined him.
“Intruders!”
“I didn’t do anything,” Mikey spoke up.
Two dozen Federation troops started to close in around them, blasters aimed and beginning to fire wildly.
Leo grabbed Mikey’s wrist and pulled him through the doorway, hitting the switch to close the door as soon as they were through.
“Is that really going to stop them?” Mikey asked pulling out his chucks.
Leo unsheathed his katana and sliced through the control switch. “They won’t now. We’ll find a better way out.” He crept down the hallway, looking through open doors, hoping someone of his family was here. This all seemed a little bizarre. He should’ve known the Federation was here. Their ships aren’t too hard to spot. He walked silently down the hallway that seemed to get darker the farther they went, the doors now getting fewer and fewer. He stopped at the last door at the end of the hall.
“Who do you think is in there?” Mikey asked.
Leo shrugged. “We’ll just have to find out.” He put his hand on the door knob and gently twisted, opening the door only a few inches. He gasped. “No way.” tbc...

Chapter 7
“What? What is it?” Mikey demanded trying to pear over Leo’s shoulder.
“Shh…” He turned and slapped a hand over Mikey’s mouth. “He’s only a few feet away.” Leo pulled his hand away.
“Who?”
“Donny.” Leo turned back to pear through the cracked open door.
“Why do we have to be quiet if it’s only Donny?” Mikey whispered.
“He’s not the only one in there. Blank is right in front of him.”
“Blank?!”
“The Federation doesn’t come here by themselves,” Leo whispered.
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.”
Leo watched Blank point a finger at Don, who was strapped down to a diagonal table.
“You were there with Professor Huneycut. You even built the teleportal.”
“It doesn’t work,” Don replied.
Blank began to pace. “But you can make it work.”
“I’m telling you. I don’t know how.”
“Don’t… or won’t?” Blank stopped in font of Don, glaring at the purple banded turtle.
The room was quiet. Leo edged his way into the room, staying at the dark corner and pulling Mikey alongside him.
“Those dinosaurs couldn’t make you talk, but we can,” Blank threatened.
“It’s a good thing Raph isn’t here,” Mikey whispered. “He’d be all over Blank.”
Leo nodded and pulled out both swords. “Circle in from the right. I’ll go to the left.”
“Gotcha.” Mikey darted off.
Leo tiptoed through the shadows, closing in on Blank who kept threatening Don. He stood only a foot away now still in the dark. The only light in the room was a bright spot light bearing down on Don and General Blank. Mikey stood on the other side of Blank and waved. He nodded and waved back.
Mikey stepped into the light with a grin. “What are you doing?”
“Interrogating your brother,” Blank growled without batting an eye.
“This interrogation is over.” Leo came out of the shadows, pointing a sword at Blank.
“Guys?” Don’s eyes widened.
Blank turned, shock on his face. It quickly hardened into a glare. He pushed aside Leo’s sword. “I don’t think so.”
“And why is that?” Mikey asked. “You’re out numbered.”
“That is where you are wrong.” Blank lifted a hand to his headset. “Perimeter alarm! Get in here now!”
The door flung open, a flood Federation troopers filling the room. They arched their weapons, some bending down to one knee, others standing. They quickly started firing in rapid succession.
With a swing of his katana, Leo cut Don loose and jumped up to avoid the laser fire. He spied Don’s bo staff, grabbed it, and flung it to his brother. “Donny, think fast!”
Don caught it and swung it low to the ground, swiping a bunch of Federation troopers off their feet.
“Ha! The federation troops we fought last time were more skilled than this!” Mikey joked.
“Focus Michelangelo!” Leo shouted landing behind some troopers and knocking them to the ground. He twirled his swords in front of him, cutting their blasters in half.
“Ow…” Mikey groaned.
Leo spun around.
“Say good bye reptile.” Blank pointed a large blaster at Mikey. Tbc…

Chapter 8
Leo knocked the last two Fed troopers standing behind him into the wall with a roundhouse kick and turned his attention back to Blank, who stood over Mikey, finger on the trigger of a large blaster. He flashed a signal to Don, then began to move closer to Blank. He jumped up and swung both katana down on the blaster, cutting it into three pieces as Don’s staff knocked Blank into the far wall. Leo reached down and helped Mikey up. “You ok?”
“Yeah… I’m ok.”
Leo turned back to Blank, watching his every move.
Blank got up and growled. “This isn’t over!”
“Looks pretty over to me,” Mikey threw back.
Blank smirked. “Try the warehouse on the east side of the city. I know that dinosaur won’t be able to get anything out of your red brother.”
“What does that mean?” Don demanded.
Blank fled the room. “You’ll see!”
“Is it just me, or was that weird?” Mikey asked putting his nunchucks away.
Leo slid his swords into their case. “Something’s up and I don’t like it.”
“How would he know where Raph is?”
Don rubbed his chin. “Unless this is all just a big trap…”
Leo nodded. “I keep thinking the same thing, but that’s how I found you two.”
Don picked up his tracer that was where Leo had found the bo staff. “Blank is right though. Raph is on the east side of the city.”
“Well then, let’s do this carefully,” Leo warned. “I don’t want you guys getting hurt.” He eyed Mikey.
“Hey it was an accident. I didn’t see that big blaster.”
“That was my point.”
---
Leo stood on the rooftop of the warehouse next to the one Raph was in. Don and Mikey stood to his right. If Raph was here, then where was Splinter? Was he ok? Was Raph ok? If his family didn’t make it out of this, he’d never be able to forgive himself. He didn’t care if he made it out of this alive or not, but he hoped he would survive this night. He had his doubt though. The way his enemies were leading him around the city was disturbing. They were actually helping him find his family even though they had given him a dead line. He had a feeling this was going to be the worst night of his life. He sighed. “Let’s go.” He jumped off the warehouse, flipped in mid air, and landed on the next warehouse. Tiptoeing over to the skylight, he peered in.
“Do you see Raph?” Mikey whispered.
“I can’t tell yet…”
“You’d think they’d have some kind of light on in there,” Don mused.
“Yeah, it’s pitch black down there,” Mikey replied, leaning on the glass.
“Hold on…” Don turned to dig in his bag.
Leo looked a little more closely at the room. With the moon covered with clouds, they wouldn’t be seen, but still, they couldn’t see into the dark warehouse either. The only thing he could make out was a few small lights a few dozen feet blow him.
“Wow,” Don murmured, looking through his binoculars.
“What do you see?” Leo asked.
“I see Raph!” Don whispered, inching closer to the glass. “Tall stacks of boxes. Some Triceratons… and… Zandramon?” Tbc…

Chapter 9
Leo opened the hatch on the sky light carefully. Now he could hear Zandramon’s voice, and it sounded anything but good.
“Where are your miserable brothers?!” Zandramon demanded.
“How should I know?” Raph threw back. “I woke up here after you helped the Foot to attack us!”
A loud smack. “I want answers!”
Long silence.
“That’s a mad dinosaur,” Mikey remarked.
“Shh…” Leo warned. He spied the closest pile of boxes and jumped down to them, landing as quietly as he could. His eyes adjusted to the dark within seconds, letting him see a path of stacked boxes that led to the dim light a dozen feet away. He continued on jumping quietly, Mikey and Don behind him, as if they were a turtle train. The boxes slowly descended down and closer to Raph. He stopped on the last box, which stood only seven feet high, and unsheathed his katana. Raph sat on his knees facing Zandramon, wrists tied behind him.
“Don, you and Mike distract Zandramon. I’ll cut Raph loose,” Leo whispered.
Don nodded and jumped down behind the Triceraton.
Mikey jumped down after him. “Hey Zandy, you don’t look too bad!”
Zandramon spun around. “What?! Where did you two come from?”
Mikey spun a nunchuck. “You got to learn more about security.”
“Guards!”
Dozens of Triceratons flooded the room.
“Get rid of them!”
Don and Mikey quickly dodged laser fire from the Triceratons and attacked, keeping Zandramon’s attention away from Raph.
Leo circled around and jumped down behind Raph. He quickly cut him loose with a slash of his swords.
Raph jumped up and spun around. “Leo?!”
“How are you doing?”
“Could be better.” Raph pulled his sai out. “These goons aren’t that smart. You got a plan to get us out of here fearless leader?” He jumped a few feet to dodge a laser.
Leo jumped out of the way and cut a few lasers in half, knocking their holders into the wall. “Sky light.”
“There’s one of those?” Raph asked.
“It’s how we got in,” Don replied, swiping some Triceratons off their feet.
Zandramon spun around and glared at him. He pulled a blaster from one of his troopers and directly at Leo.
He jumped up and spun a kick at a Triceraton standing right behind him and watched the dino soar right into Zandramon and then the wall.
Zandramon growled and roared when he looked around the room to see his reinforcements unconscious. He jumped to his feet and this time lunged for Raph.
Raph jumped up out of the way, landed a good kick to Zandramon’s back.
Leo jumped up and kicked Zandramon into a pile of boxes that toppled over upon impact. “Come on. Let’s go.” He jumped back up on the boxes and headed for the sky light.
“There’s more to this then you four think! And you’ll see!” Zandramon yelled.
Leo replaced his swords in their cases and jumped out onto the roof, jumping until the four of them were a few buildings away from the warehouse. He stopped and tried to catch his breath. “Now... to find Splinter.”
“I know where he is,” Raph said grimly.
“We all do,” Don mumbled.
Leo looked at his brothers in confusion. They knew something he didn’t. And he was getting the feeling he now knew that answer too. Tbc...

Chapter 10
“He’s at Shredder’s tower,” Mikey said.
Leo’s eyes widened. He knew it. But he didn’t want to be right. Not today. “What? You all knew this?”
Don nodded. “We thought you did too.”
“I was out cold on the rooftops most of the day.” Leo turned to look at the pink hue of the sunrise. All this had started nearly twenty four hours ago. What if it was too late?
“Well get to him in time Leo,” Raph spoke up.
“We should be able to get there before the Foot realizes we’ve escaped,” Don said.
Leo sighed. “Yeah. You’re right.”
“When is Don wrong about that?” Mikey asked.
“Don’t push it Mikey,” Raph growled.
---
Leo peered around the corner. He was on the 72nd floor and on his own. They had decided to split up to cover more ground. And so far... nothing. No Foot. No flunkies. No Splinter. The coast clear, he tiptoed down the hall, a katana out, ready for his opponents. If he ever came across any. He cracked open the first door on his left. A lab with a lot of flunkies. Finally. At least someone was in this building. Second door, another lab. Third to fifth doors, genetic labs. Last door, storage. He rounded the next corner, into a large room before another dark hallway.
“Hello Leonardo.”
He turned slightly. Hun stood in front of him, cracking his knuckles. He quickly pulled out his other katana.
“Have I ever told you how much fun I had chasing down you and your brothers?”
Leo said nothing.
“Plenty! That’s what,” Hun growled. “Now it’s payback time.” He lunged forward, swinging his fist for a punch.
Leo ducked and slipped around him. Jumping up, he spun around and kicked Hun down. It had been quiet for too long.
The large Foot thug slammed into the wall. Hun grumbled and got to his feet, thrusting forward again, landing a punch that sent Leo into the wall.
He groaned and jumped to his feet as quickly as he could.
A door banged open and a few Foot ninjas came from the second hallway dragging a turtle.
“Mikey!” Leo’s eyes widened feeling a punch to his side. He crumpled to his knees.
Another door banged and this time they dragged Raph down the hall.
Leo groaned looking up at his two brothers. They lay limp on the floor. Hun picked him up and threw him across the hall. He turned and kicked off the wall before impact, landing lightly on his feet, one katana in hand, the other on the floor in the middle of the hall.
A third band. More ninjas. This time Donatello, just as limp as the others. Leo cringed. “No!” He ducked another punch from Hun and kicked him into the wall, plaster raining down on the large thug.
Leo rushed over to Don and shook him. “Donny, can you hear me?”
Don jerked and kicked him into the wall. “Yeah I hear you.”
“We’re also not following orders from you anymore big brother,” Raph growled, sending a round house kick.
Leo flipped over him and backed away confused. “But why? What’s wrong with you guys?”
“Nothing,” Mikey replied from behind. “We’re all fine.”
“But they do work for me now,” Shredder gloated, coming out of the shadows.
Don and Raph closed in from the sides.
Leo couldn’t believe his ears. It couldn’t be true. It was a lie. “No. It’s not right. What did you do to them?!”
“I did nothing. They joined on their own,” Shredder answered.
Another Shredder came out of the shadows, stopping in front of Leo. He took of his helmet. It was Splinter. “Join us my son.” Tbc…

Chapter 11
Leo was surrounded by his family, all of them glaring at him with hatred in their eyes. This couldn’t be happening. It just couldn’t be. How? He didn’t understand it.
“Oh but it is happening brother,” Raph taunted. “It’s time for a new way of doing things. And it doesn’t look like you’re joining us.” He grabbed his brother’s wrist and pulled him closer. “Goodbye brother.” He flipped him into one of the shelves right inside the room behind them.
Leo struggled to his knees. A jangling sound pierced the stillness. The shelf began to topple. He darted out of its path and stood up, finding himself in front of Mikey.
“How long are you going to be a spoil sport?”
Don pounced on him, rolling across the floor, and threw him into the wall.
“How could you guys do this?” Leo asked struggling to stand. His strength was failing and was falling as fast as his hope that this was all just a big joke.
“Easy,” Raph said. “Just like it was easy for you to order us around.”
Zandramon and Blank stepped out of the shadows.
“I told you there was more,” Zandramon gloated.
Raph grabbed Leo’s foot and dragged him to another shelf and slammed him into it, then backed up with a smirk on his face.
Don swung his staff, whacking the metal shelf. It toppled dangerously.
Leo tried to get up, but felt too weak. He only looked up at his family. The hatred in their eyes made his stomach turn. The shelf fell before he could move, the weight crushing him. Large objects crashing against his skull, pulling him into the darkness.
---
His whole body ached, a migraine forming at the back of his head. He could hear voices, but they seemed distant. He reached up to rub his sore neck, but couldn’t. He was strapped down to some sort of table. Metal he guessed by the way it felt on his skin. He opened his eyes, waited for the blurriness to clear, and almost gasped. The room was dimly lit and the voices he heard were his family’s. Though Splinter was no longer in the Shredder suit. Wires were spread out all around him. Some attached to him, some not. Don hovered over him, fiddling with the strap across his chest. What were they doing to him? He had to get out of here somehow. Maybe there was some way to get his family back. Or maybe it was too late. He banished the thought. There had to be hope.
“Hey look. He’s awake,” Mikey said.
Leo struggled against his restraints. If he only could get free.
“Calm down Leo,” Don said. “It’s going to be alright.”
Alright? In what twisted version would this be alright? Don was crazy. He nearly had his right foot loose now.
Splinter circled around to his right side and put a hand on Leo’s forehead. “You must relax my son.”
Leo closed his eyes shut. How could Splinter say relax after he had betrayed him? His foot came loose, scratching against the leather strap.
“Sensei?” Don asked.
Splinter sighed. “Do it.”
Pressure was applied to his neck and shoulder, worsening his headache. Leo opened his eyes again, but everything was fading into darkness again. Tbc…

Chapter 12
Raph looked at Leo’s limp form, still strapped down to the metal table, wires everywhere. Why had Leo reacted that way? “You really think it was a good idea to knock him out?”
“He might not be himself right now,” Don answered. “If I didn’t do it, he might cause more harm to himself.” He undid the last strap and began to wrap Leo’s ankle where the leather had scratched it. Luckly it was only a small cut.
“Can we just get out of here now?” Raph asked.
“This place gives me the creeps,” Mikey said.
“We’re going.” Don and Splinter lifted Leo off the table and put his arms around their shoulders.
“Finally.” Raph turned and punched the door open button. The large door opened with a big swoosh.
Bishop and Stockman stood in the hallway a few feet away.
“Well well,” Bishop said. “You found Leonardo.”
“We don’t have time for your games Bishop,” Raph growled.
“But I do.” Bishop darted forward, aiming a punch at Raph.
He managed to duck in time and landed a kick to Bishop’s leg.
Mikey charged forward, swinging his chucks for Bishop’s head, but missing.
“Did you like the machine Donatello?” Stockman asked.
“You built that thing?!” Raph jumped over Bishop and thrust out his foot, kicking Stockman into the wall.
“Amazing what you can do with technology,” Bishop remarked. He turned to attack Don and Splinter, thrusting out his leg for a spinning kick.
“Hey Raphy!” Mikey called.
Raph growled but nodded to Mikey. Together they jumped up and intercepted Bishop, kicking him into the next room. If they weren’t in a hurry, Bishop would be in so much trouble right now.
“Come on you two,” Don called from the next hallway.
He ran down the hall behind Don, Leo, and Splinter with Mikey behind him. Out the second door of the warehouse, they jumped into the battle shell and sped for home.
---
Don laid Leo on the couch with Splinter’s help. He’d have to check Leo’s vital signs, but his pulse was good. But he still worried for his brother. There might be permanent damage from that machine. He’d find out soon though. At least he hoped he would.
“Why did Leo react like that at Bishop’s?” Mikey asked.
“You’d think he’d be grateful to be out of there,” Raph muttered.
“It messed with his mind,” Don answered. “It could take some time before he’s back to normal.” He sighed. He feared it would take weeks. Maybe months before everything was back to normal. Tbc…

Chapter 13
Leo groaned and opened his eyes. He was in the lair and no longer strapped down to a table. His head still ached, but not as bad as before. His family came over to him, relief in their eyes. Awhile ago he saw hate, but not now. Why?
“How are you feeling?” Don asked.
He didn’t answer, but only shut his eyes. Except for feeling achy, he didn’t feel any pain like something was broken. He thought something would have been broken when the metal shelf came down on him. Don. He was the one who had knocked it over, and now he asked how he felt?
“Leonardo. My son, do you remember what happened?” Splinter put his hand on Leo’s shoulder.
Leo sighed, too depressed too fight them. “We were at Shredder’s tower. The shelf. Donny did it...”
A long silence.
“What did I do?” Don finally asked.
“You pushed over the shelf. I blacked out and woke to you hovering over me.”
“Is he saying what I think he’s saying?” Mikey asked.
“That Donny betrayed him,” Raph replied.
“I think so,” Don answered.
“It’s not true my son,” Splinter said gently.
“It is. You all did,” Leo murmured.
“It was just a dream,” Don replied softly.
Leo’s eyes opened slightly. How could it have been a dream? He had felt everything that had happened. You don’t feel pain in dreams. Yet looking around, the lair wasn’t destroyed. He saw no hate in his family. And they all looked unharmed.
“You’ve been asleep for 48 hours hooked up to a dream distortion machine,” Don continued. “You felt it because it was hooked to your central nervous system. This is the reality. We’ve never betrayed you.”
“You know we’d never do that,” Mikey spoke up. “Or would we...”
Raph slapped Mikey upside the head. “That’s enough.”
“Get some rest my son,” Splinter urged.
“He’s been sleeping for two days,” Mikey said, then ducked another hit from Raph.
Leo fell into a light sleep, still unsure if this was the dream or reality. Or even if what Don said was true. To be continued…

Last chapter. I hope any who have been reading this has enjoyed this fic. Chapter 14 A few days had gone by now and still both seemed like the reality and the dream. He dreamed of the betrayal and couldn’t shake the feeling it gave him. Leo stood in the kitchen, leaning against the counter, staring at the glass of water in his hand. It was early morning. Early enough that no one else should be up. His family gave him strange looks when he didn’t answer them. They were confused that he couldn’t see that this was the reality, but he couldn’t blame them. They didn’t see what he saw. Still, with time he was starting to believe them. Starting. But then he saw the betrayal durning whether he was sleeping or not. He didn’t know what to think anymore. “Hey Leo, come in here,” Don spoke up suddenly breaking the quiet. He set the glass down. “What?” “I finally got that video feed working.” Leo followed Don to the lab saying nothing more. Everyone else was in the lab too. They were up early. “So when we were at Bishop’s, I grabbed the tape that recorded the dream. It was the only way I could think of to convince you this is real if you didn’t believe us.” He pushed the play button on his laptop. Leo watched the screen intently as it played the last hour before he had woken up on that table. When it was done, no one said anything for a long time. “No wonder,” Raph murmured. “No wonder what?” Leo asked. “No wonder you didn’t believe us. It looked so real. And we couldn’t even feel it.” “Did you really see that?” Mikey asked. Leo nodded. “Yeah. It was so real. Despite what you said, after you brought me back home, I still dreamed about it. It still felt so real.” He shook his head. “It was hard to know the reality.” “Was?” Don asked. Leo smiled slightly. “Sometimes you have to listen to your heart.” “It took awhile though,” Raph remarked. “But what happened? How did I get hooked to that thing?” “You don’t remember anything?” Don asked. Leo shook his head. “We were training topside when Mikey fell through an abandoned building,” Raph said, eyeing Mikey. Mikey smiled sheepishly. “It could have happened to you.” “Yeah, well it didn’t.” Raph glared at Mikey. “We all went in after him, but you disappeared,” Don said. “The Foot had found you after we split up trying to find Mikey in that huge warehouse.” Leo nodded remembering some of it now. The elite had ambushed him. After that he woke up to the dream realm. “Now that that’s settled, you guys want to go topside for awhile,” Mikey asked. “This soon?” Don asked. “No. I think it’s a good idea,” Leo replied. He wanted to put some distance between him and what had happened. He didn’t want to think about it anymore. “Be careful my sons,” Splinter warned. Topside Leo stood on the rooftops with his brothers. He hadn’t felt so relaxed in days, and all his aches were gone. He couldn’t believe that he had believed the dream. He knew his family better. “Up for some follow the leader?” Mikey asked. “As long as Leo isn’t leading,” Raph replied. “I’m not following you anymore brother.” Leo raised an eyeridge. “You know I’m just joking.” He didn’t answer. “After you.” Leo grinned. “I know you were.” He turned and jumped off the roof, flipped, and landed on the next rooftop, running through the city. The End
