Chapter 14
“You want to save your sister?” Fang asked with a sly smile and hands held behind his back.
She looked up at the approaching figure. Her vision doubled and she shook with pain. Her stomach was doing flip flops inside of her, causing her to crumple more.
“What did you do?!” Moon demanded, not leaving her side.
“A little motivation.” Fang smirked looking down at them. “I may have underestimated you.”
“What does that mean?!”
“You will join my dragon army. The one that takes care of my... well unpleasant business. Or else you will lose your sister.”
“What?!” Moon jumped up facing Fang.
“I suggest you choose quickly. The poison will finish its job in a few minutes.”
Moon looked down at her, grief etched all over his face.
“No. Don’t do it,” Star whispered. The world around her started to spin and darken until her head made contact with the ground with a thump.
---
Her limbs felt numb and a persistent ringing in her ears was starting to annoy her. She could barely move, but she managed to open her eyes slightly. Moon stood over her, placing a wet cloth on her head. She was lying on a small bed in her old room in the palace. She tried to say something, but felt too weak, the only thing coming out was an indiscernible whisper.
Moon put his hand on her arm, urging her to lay still, and sat down next to her. He looked over at the other end of the room. “I accepted Fang’s offer.”
Star didn’t know if she heard right. She only stared at him.
He finally looked back down at her. “I don’t want to loose you. And I can keep an eye on Fang to make sure he doesn’t harm you again.”
She let her eyes close. It was all a mess. What started out a normal day turned into her worst nightmare. This couldn’t be happening.
“I want to get you off the planet. It would be best if you laid low for awhile. Blaze and I will take you to one of the shuttles when you get well enough.”
Her eyes popped open. “I don’t want to leave you,” she said in a voice just barely above a whisper now.
He took her hand. “I need you to. If Fang does something again when I’m not around…” He closed his eyes and sighed.
Star slowly sat up, getting dizzy in the process, and hugged Moon. “Alright.” If she had to do this for her brother, she would.
