Here is my fic for our second contest. Hope you all enjoy. Rai's profile is in the OC Profiles section if anyone needs to read it.
Chapter 1
Raison stood on the rooftops of a city on Earth called New York. The city was beautiful. The lights and full moon made it different from his own home world. On Taris you could barely see the moon, let alone the stars. The buildings were triple the size of this city. And on the outskirts, flowers were almost as tall as the buildings, trying to hide the red sky.
But now it was time to focus. His quarry was down here somewhere. He usually liked to have a little fun with his prey. Let them think they had gotten away. They never did though. That was what tracers were for. He guessed he could thank his dad for that. At least it was useful. He chuckled. No one ever got away from him. He got a job as a bounty hunter a couple years ago to make up for the justice he couldn’t get when he was younger. If he couldn’t get justice, at least he could get some for others. His training had been long and hard, starting ten years ago. Luckily the training hadn’t been ten years. Only eight. He considered some of the methods unconventional, but despite what he thought, it had worked. He was one of the most skillful hunters around. He could easily be called an assassin. But there was one difference. He never liked to kill those he was after. It went against his nature. So he settled for keeping his targets alive.
He jumped down to the ground and walked through the alleys. His prey was near, moving slowly as if he didn’t have a care in the world. He rounded the corner and saw him. The blue and grey fox peeked around the next corner. Rai snuck up behind him and grabbed his wrist. “Hey Silver. Long time no see.”
Silver jumped and spun around, trying to pull free. “Let me go. I haven’t done anything to you.”
“To me? No. To my boss? Yes.”
“And who is this boss of yours?”
Rai chuckled. “Oh you know him. Sting him once shame on him. Sting him twice, watch your back forever.”
“Buzz!”
“Bingo.” Raison pulled Silver over himself and threw him to the wall. “Do you know what I do to scum like you?”
“You let me run.” Silver jumped up and darted down the alley.
Rai shook his head. The fox was dimwitted wasn’t he? He smiled, quite amused. Most of the criminals were. He jumped up onto the rooftops, ran across three buildings, and jumped back down to the ground. He landed right in front of Silver and leaned against the wall. “Nice night for a run isn’t it?”
Silver’s jaw dropped. He closed it and sent him an icy glare, then spun and darted back the way he had come. Where was the big tough fox now?
“Where do you think you’re going punk?” a new voice demanded far down the alley.
Rai lifted an eyeridge. A new player. He pulled the hood of his overcoat further down over his head and slunk through the shadows.
Silver had run into a large green turtle wearing a red mask. “Out of my way freak!”
The turtle chuckled. “You calling me a freak? You need to look in the mirror.”
“I don’t have time for this!” Silver spun and ran.
The turtle appeared in front of him. “You can’t run from a ninja.”
“Who’s running? I’m disappearing.” Silver punched the turtle in the jaw and jumped up, giving him a double kick to the head. “See ya sucker!” He quickly ran off.
The turtle staggered backwards and grumbled.
Rai came out of the shadows, walking calmly to the turtle. “You alright?”
He nodded and rubbed his jaw. “Who was that guy?”
“Just my quarry. I have to retrieve him and bring him back to Taris.” Rai paused. “I’ve never seen a giant turtle before.”
The turtle chuckled. “Been awhile since I’ve seen a fox. You a fox?”
Rai laughed too. “No.” He pulled his hood off. “Tiger. Name’s Raison.”
“Raphael. You need some help catching that guy?”
“Not really. But help never hurts. And I could use the company.” Rai started walking down the alley and pulled his hood back over his head. He pulled out a small device.
“What’s that for?” Raph asked.
“Tracing my target. It keeps track of all the tracers I have activated. They’re undetectable. Well, to the untrained eye. Otherwise they’re just hard to find.” Rai followed the little blinking light staying in the shadows.
After a few minutes a ringing sound pierced the air.
“You go ahead,” Raph said and answered a little phone. “Yeah?”
Rai continued on, but slowed down a bit. Silver wasn’t going anywhere. His ship was inoperable at the moment.
“What?!” Raph yelled.
Rai stopped and looked at Raph, who had now closed his phone.
“Sorry. I can’t help.”
“Trouble?”
“Yeah. Foot ninjas,” Raph growled.
“I’ll help.”
Raph looked at him like he was crazy. “Don’t you have that fox to catch?”
“Silver can wait. He’s not leaving the planet,” Rai said calmly.
“I don’t have time to argue then,” Raph said. “Let’s go.” He jumped up to the rooftops and took off, running like there was no tomorrow.
Raison ran behind him, very much interested in a good fight.
